I want to follow up on Hal’s post from yesterday about Jesse Jackson’s comments regarding Obama.
I’ve mentioned many times that one of Obama’s most appealing characteristics, irrespective of his left-wing politics, is that he is the literal embodiment of the American Dream. He’s a first generaltion son of a Kenyan immigrant, and he’s one vote away from the presidency. Only in America could this happen. Regardless of what you think of him or his politics, you can’t reasonably deny what he represents.
Jesse Jackson recognizes this. It is Jesse who has made a career out of telling black Americans that whitey will always work to keep them down, that a black man can’t make it in America, that without groups like Rainbow/PUSH blacks will never be able to achieve anything. Obama is the polar opposite of this idea. He speaks about the beauty of America, about how there is something special about this nation. In short, he completely blows Jesse Jackson’s bullshit arguments out of the water.
An Obama presidency means Jesse Jackson’s total and utter irrelevance. Blacks will begin to say, “If Obama can make it, why the hell do I need some asshole like Jesse Jackson?” This is why I have described Jesse as a racial arsonist, he goes around stoking the fires of racial animus and then positions himself as the only person who can extinguish them. Obama doesn’t need racial fires, he’s tehe anti-Jackson.
I don’t like Obama’s politics. But I like Obama, and I like what he represents. We can argue all day about his politics, but only someone like him can rid the world of scum like Jack$on and $harpton.
